Cheap Amsterdam: UMI Sushi and Grill

The chocolate walls, cream-coloured banquettes and discreet service at UMI Sushi & Grill make you think you’ve stumbled upon an exclusive (read expensive) Japanese restaurant. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Every day for lunch and dinner, maki rolls are 40 per cent off the menu price, while temaki handrolls and nigiri sushi are 50 per cent off. All the food is super fresh and elegantly presented on black crockery, and with the massive discounts it's possible to eat extremely well for under €10 per person.

The restaurant’s location near Amsterdam's Leidseplein makes it a welcome spot to escape the crowds and the often overpriced and underwhelming tourist traps in the area.

Also on the menu at UMI Sushi & Grill - although not discounted - are sashimi, teppanyaki dishes and udon noodles.
