Tazzina means ‘small cup’ in Italian and the cups of coffee at this charming espresso bar are excellent. Even better are all the things made from chocolate.

The hot chocolate is thick enough to stand a spoon in but not too sweet, and the chocolate cake is rich and moist.

Located on the corner of Brouwersgracht and Willemsstraat, there isn't much space at Tazzina - just enough for a few small tables and a metal staircase that spirals steeply up to the toilets - but the high windows on two sides give it the illusion of being roomier.

Despite filling up quickly, Tazzina’s location on a residential canal makes it a good place to escape the crowds on Haarlemmerdijk.
