At Small World Cafe, soups, creative quiches, pasta dishes and fantastic homemade cakes issue forth from what has to be one of the tiniest kitchens in Amsterdam.
Small World Cafe opened in 1999 and hasn’t looked back. Despite the cafe’s popularity - which means the few tables are often full - the charming Australian owner has managed to retain a personal feel and knows many of his regulars by name.
Much of Small World Cafe’s success can be attributed to the care that goes into preparing the food. Sandwiches come with creative fillings such as prosciutto, artichokes, lemon oil and rucola, or vegetables, tallegio cheese and homemade pesto.
Brownies are made with Belgian chocolate and the carrot cake, served in enormous, moist hunks, is the kind of thing I would cycle through bad weather for. Juices are squeezed to order and the excellent coffee is roasted locally in Amsterdam. A small world indeed.
