Owned by Dutch chef Sander van Ommen and Nicole Milo, the predominantly Mediterranean food at Foodware deli and cafe in the Jordaan is excellent: fresh, homemade sandwiches, soups and salads for lunch or full meals for dinner.
There are a few seats if you choose to eat in, but Foodware focuses predominantly on takeaway - a good option if you don't feel like cooking yourself.
The menu changes daily and is based on seasonal ingredients, but could include things like guinea fowl with truffle mascarpone and herb polenta; sweet potato curry with black beans and jasmine rice; or Thai fish cakes with lemon noodles and chilli sauce.
The dessert menu is made up of classics such as chocolate mousse, lemon cheesecake and carrot-walnut cake.
Other branches of Foodware can be found at Cornelis Krusemanstraat 11. Tel: 020 470 7310; Westerstraat 116. Tel: 020 330 8835.
