With a name that refers to food and wine as fuel for the body (brandstof in Dutch), Bar Brandstof is a new bar on Marnixstraat.
I had hoped to add it to the Wine Bar listings, but there are only four wines to choose from - red, rosé, white and Prosecco - which is why this review has ended up in the News section.
I tried the white and the red wines which, at €3 a pop, were reasonably priced. The menu doesn't list what wines they are, however, which is often a sign that they were chosen simply to be consumed and not because the bar cares very much about what it serves. This seems to be the case at Bar Brandstof. They are fine for getting drunk on but not memorable in any way.
Bar Brandstof is frequented by a mostly young, hip crowd, perhaps attracted by the bar's novelty factor or the stylish interior, the most eye-catching feature of which is the two streetlamps over the bar.
This stretch of Marnixstraat is a bit of a desert when it comes to bars and cafés, but I would still only recommend Bar Brandstof if you find yourself in the area and have nowhere else to go; or as a fair-weather spot, when you can escape the noise and crush inside by grabbing a table on the large terrace outside.

Amsterdam Restaurant Reviews
Bar Brandstof Fails to Ignite

Comments
The housewines that we serve are carefully chosen, but we try to keep it simple(since we are a restaurant/bar). We also serve Wines of the month, which are carefully chosen in cooperation of several companies such as Great wines, Karakter wijnen and Vinites. Since we do care about our customers, i would like to invite you(the writer of this article) to drop by and give it another chance, to see what brandstof stand for!!
Hope to see you soon
