Open seven days a week and from seven in the morning Monday through Friday, @7 in the Rivierenbuurt is one of only a handful of places in Amsterdam where you can stop for a drink or bite on your way to work.
Characterised is a deli - although there is plenty of seating if you want to eat in - @7 serves breakfast, as well as lunch and high tea.
To start the day there's coffee from Italian brand Buscaglione, also served double strength if you're really having trouble getting going, a longer-than-usual list of teas from Betjeman and Barton and a selection of shakes and smoothies made from Brazilian fruits. These include current ‘it’ berry Açai, which is touted for its antioxidant properties, caffeine-alternative Guarana and Maracujá (passion fruit).
To accompany these liquid fortifiers are croissants, yoghurt with muesli, home-made muffins, scrambled eggs and, looking suspiciously like they have escaped from the high tea menu, scones with clotted cream and jam.
From 11 o’clock, tuck into sandwiches topped with melted goat’s cheese, tuna salad or mackerel from Frank’s Smoke House. Soups, salads and cakes from patisserie Holtkamp are also available.
