Lovefood brunch is back on June 12. The pop-up concept from Jason Hartley has found a monthly Sunday spot in Brasserie Vlaming, but each edition sells out quickly so book fast.

Lovefood's menu keeps evolving, but includes The Beast ('a hearty show of unity from England, Ulster and Scotland'), The Mikey (a US-style start to the day, which includes biscuits and gravy, cheesy grits and pancakes with maple syrup) and the meat-free Refined Veggie.

Egg dishes are also plentiful, and cover eggs Benedict and Florentine (suprisingly hard to find in Amsterdam), as well as eggs Norwegian (poached eggs with Alaskan salmon) and eggs Blackstone (poached eggs with smoked bacon).

A big advocate of flavour, Jason Hartley makes his own sausages, English muffins, cornbread, soda bread, salsa, guacamole and more.

Lovefood started about two years ago as an idea to create and share classic brunch dishes. Originally a marketeer (he still holds down a marketing job during the week), Jason taught himself to cook and launched a monthly Sunday brunch in Cafe Bax (Amsterdam West).

Quickly outgrowing these premises, Lovefood relocated to Brasserie Vlaming on Prinsengracht where Jason has been tinkering with his concept ever since. The announcement of each edition of Lovefood (currently still a monthly event) results in a booking frenzy that has seen the previous few brunches sell out in 30 minutes.

At the time of writing this post, there were still a couple of tables available for the afternoon sittings on June 12 (I'm guessing because last weekend - when bookings opened - was a long weekend and many people left Amsterdam).
