Following cities such as New York, London and Bologna, Amsterdam now has its own culinary film festival. The first Dutch Food Film Festival runs from March 18-20 in Studio K.
More than 20 films will be screened over three days. These include internationally acclaimed documentaries like Kings of Pastry (Chris Hegedus, D. A. Pennebaker, 2009) and El Bulli: Cooking in Progress (Geroen Wetzel, 2010), about the three Michelin-starred - and soon-to-be-no-more - Spanish restaurant run by Ferran Adria.
Also in the line-up is Grown in Detroit (Mascha Poppenk and Manfred Poppenk, 2010), an inspiring tale about teenage mothers who are learning how to grow their own vegetables in the vacant lots that have appeared all over Detroit since the city’s car industry collapsed.
Accompanying
the films is a programme of food-related workshops, debates and lectures.
And anyone who is peckish after a screening can tuck into dishes cooked in Studio K’s kitchen by the likes of Jamie Pike (chef at The Canteen in Bristol, UK) and Oliver
Rowe (BBC’s The Urban Chef), who have joined forces for the event under the tongue-in-cheek moniker Jamie + Oliver.
The Dutch Food Film Festival is organised by the Youth Food Movement. This is the youth branch of Slow Food, an international organisation founded in Italy in the '80s as a reaction to fast food.
Tickets for the Dutch Food Film Festival are still available, and can be bought online or at the Studio K ticket office.
