Het Weekend van de Rollende Keukens, two days of mobile food in Amsterdam’s Westergasfabriek, gives new meaning to the concept of meals on wheels.

The quirky culinary event, now in its third year, brings together dozens of mobile kitchens that roll into Westergasfabriek to form one big open-air restaurant.

Using gas rings, hot plates and deep-fat fryers squeezed into school buses, VW campers and old fire engines, chefs conjure up chips, pizzas, pancakes and other light bites.

Also parked up will be the weirdly wonderful Korean Taco Party, two Dutch guys who cook Korean fusion street food including: Mexican tortillas filled with grilled Korean marinated short rib (or tofu), Korean chilli sauce, lettuce in soya-lime dressing and that staple of Korean meals, kimchi (fermented vegetables).

Thirsty? Look out for Het Reizende Theehuis (pictured), a travelling teahouse serving fresh mint tea and gorgeous home-made cakes out of a caravan; or try the sleek, silver Drive and Shake bus for iced coffee and cocktails.

The food will be accompanied by bands, some also mobile.

Het Weekend van de Rollende Keukens takes place in Westergasfabriek, Amsterdam on September 18 and 19 between 13.00 and 22.00.
