Reviews of restaurants and cafes serving Dutch food

Enormous portions of Dutch food away from the bustle of Nieuwmarkt.

Café de Jaren
A huge bar, café and restaurant. Service is notoriously slow, but its location near Kalverstraat shopping street means it pulls in locals, shoppers and tourists alike.

A small, cosy place with a relaxed vibe that serves breakfast, lunch and snacks and (alcoholic) drinks in the evenings. A few doors away from Café de Jaren (above).

A pleasant eetcafé in De Pijp for generous portions of Dutch classics. Doubles as a bar.

Cheap, filling Dutch classics with a Mediterranean twist onboard De Feniks, a passenger boat moored in Amsterdam during the winter.

Petit café serving French/Dutch-inspired breakfasts, lunches and high teas. Delicious food, passionate owners and cosy interior. Highly recommended.

Hemelse Modder
Questionable furniture aside, this is a good place to discover traditional, seasonal Dutch dishes on the beautiful Oude Waal canal.

Dutch and French-inspired food in the classy surroundings of a 17th-century coach house. Located on bustling Reguliersdwarsstraat.

A cosy café inside a bookshop. A nice place for coffee and cake while browsing the literature on offer.

A simple café on Ferdinand Bolstraat selling a small selection of tasty sandwiches, croissants, coffee and tea. Opens early for breakfast.

A new breakfast and lunch concept, currently with branches on Rokin and Ferdinand Bolstraat, offering food to suit your mood.

Situated in a 700-year-old weigh house right in the centre of Nieuwmarkt, this restaurant and café offers up plenty of history, but is less inspiring when it comes to the food and drink.

Located in a converted section of railway bridge, this unusual restaurant serves quality food with Dutch, French and Italian influences. Great views, too.

Rustic décor and quality homemade breakfasts, lunches and high teas in West.

Located in the pretty Spiegelkwartier, this is a great place to experience quality Dutch food made from local and seasonal ingredients. Open for lunch and dinner.

Quality breakfast, lunch, high tea and dinner at student-friendly prices. Located opposite the University of Amsterdam's faculties on Roetersstraat.
