In the same building where Boek ʼn’ Surf (a bookshop and internet café) used to be, the independent bookshop Inkt en Olie opened its doors in September 2008.
Owned by two literature graduates, Nadezjda den Hertog and Anouk Hazenberg, the interior has been spruced up, the shelves filled with predominantly Dutch and English fiction, non-fiction and cookery books, and the mezzanine level turned into a small café.
The menu is limited, but everything is freshly made: coffee and tea, a couple of homemade sweets, such as lemon and poppy seed cake or fig and honey muffins and one savoury item.
Inkt en Olie is a nice place to spend a few hours while browsing the books on offer.
In the next building up is KOFI-T.
