A nice addition to the mainly cheap and cheerful student joints on Roetersstraat, T Food and Drink serves breakfast, lunch, high tea and simple dinners. A small, split-level café, it has an uncluttered interior that includes nice features such as chunky wooden tables and lampshades made from metal teapots.

The food on offer is simple but made with high-quality ingredients and prices are reasonable. This attracts a lot of students and University of Amsterdam staff from the economics and psychology faculties opposite, particularly at lunchtime when the place can get crowded and noisy.

Breakfast options include organic yoghurt with muesli or a croissant with jam. The sandwiches, which are made from sourdough bread, are well filled and mostly vegetarian.

Soups, salads, toasted sandwiches and homemade cakes are also available. The carrot cake, served with a small pot of lemon curd, is good, if a little dry.

T Food and Drink's name doesn’t make it hard to guess what the speciality here is, and indeed one side of the A3 menu is devoted to tea. The range includes black teas from India, China, Taiwan and Japan, as well as chai, herb teas and ice tea. Cups cost €2-2.50 and pots €6. A small selection of beer, wine and snacks is also available.

T Food and Drink is a few minutes walk from Kriterion student cinema, Meneer Nilsson Spanish restaurant and Sagra dell’uva wine shop.
