KOFI-T is a light-filled café next to independent bookshop Inkt en Olie. The interior is simple – high wooden tables and chairs, oversized spun lampshades and a few splashes of blue on the otherwise white walls – as is the menu.

There were only three sandwich options when I visited: cheese, tuna and egg, but these were made with excellent crusty baguette and well-filled. The coffee is good too, although on the expensive side. Croissants with jam are also available.

KOFI-T attracts a local crowd and the early opening times (hard to find in Amsterdam) make it a good place for breakfast during the week.

You know those places...which might be a great concept... but suffer from terribly poor management? Well, KOFI-T is one of those. While I was trying to enjoy a quiet morning, the manager was showing off in the cafe, laughing so loud the windows could break... The menu is poor and highly overpriced. Coffee and tea here is 15-20% more expensive than at any nice cafe in the neighbourhood. Paying more is ok, when you get service and a nice atmosphere, but KOFI-T spoils that too...

Thanks for your comment Marina. Sorry to hear that your morning got off to such a bad start at KOFI-T!

I'd be interested to know which cafes you would recommend in that neighbourhood - I spend a lot more time north of that part of Amsterdam.

Well Marina, you're the lucky one with the loud laughing (which I recognise). Most of the time the management is rude to the employees and impolite to the costumers. I've been to KOFI-T five times because the coffee is great but the behaviour of the manager stopped me from goin' there again.
